STEWARDSHIP AND PURITY

Passage: Deuteronomy 22:1~30

Key verse: 1

1. "Do not ignore it" (1-12)

As God's family, the Israelites were commanded not to be indifferent toward their neighbors' troubles, but to reach out a helping hand. They were to care even for animals and practice stewardship of the species they ate as food, so there could be delicious eggs for future generations. They were to construct their own homes with safety features in order to protect others from accidents. This is the expression of being our brother's keeper.

2. You must purge the evil from among you (13-30)

Sexual purity outside of marriage is God's standard for both men and women. Jesus expanded on this even to include sins that men commit with their eyes. A man who became jealous because he suspected his wife of unfaithfulness would be punished for bringing a false accusation against her. To take someone's virginity was seen as incurring the responsibility of marriage.

Prayer: Lord, help me not be indifferent to my neighbor's problems. Wash me from my sins of impurity and help me not to use others selfishly.

One Word: Take responsibility
