THE PROPHECY AGAINST MOAB

Passage: Isaiah 15:1~16:14

Key verse: 16:5

1. My heart cries out for Moab (15:1-9)

Moab is the descendant of Lot, Abraham's nephew. Moab seduced Israel to worship Baal (Num 25:1-5). She attacked and subdued Israel for 18 years (Jud 3:12-14). She invaded Israel as often as possible (2 King 13:20). God would judge Ar, Kir and all the famous cities of Moab. They will become like fluttering birds pushed from the nest. God's judgment is severe and thorough against the enemy of Israel. But God's compassionate heart cries out for Moab. This is our Father God's heart wanting all sinners to repent and be saved.

2. In love a throne will be established (16:1-14)

Verses 1-5 shows how Moab could be saved. God will establish a throne fro m the house of David, Jesus the Messiah. He is the only hope for the perishing Moabites. Verses 6-10 shows that Moab's overwhelming pride, insolence and boasts caused her destruction. The Lord has spoken already concerning Moab's judgment. So it will be. (vv.11-13)

Prayer: Lord, take away our pride, insolence and boasts that cause our destruction. Thank you for the Messiah, Jesus, the only hope for all perishing human beings.

One Word: A throne established in love
