AN ORACLE AGAINST DAMASCUS AND CUSH

Passage: Isaiah 17:1~18:7

Key verse: 18:7a

1. Yet some gleanings will remain (17:1-14)

God will destroy Aram (Damascus) completely together with Northern Israel for allying against Judah. God judges Northern Israel for her corruption, idol worshiping and lack of repentance. They have forgotten God their Savior and have not remembered the Rock, their fortress. Yet God would allow some remnants to look to their Maker and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel. God is the Sovereign who judges all the nations. They will be like chaff driven before the wind.

2. The gifts will be brought to Mount ion

(18:1-7)

Cush is ancient Ethiopia with a people tall and smooth-skinned. She represents all aggressive and powerful nations in any age. But God's people would not be driven by them. When the nations rally standing against God, he remains quiet. He is slow to judge. But when his time is ripened, God will cut off nations. Then the time will come when Cush would bring gifts to Mount Zion, to the Lord Almighty. They will come to be taught by the word of God (C2).

Prayer: Lord, I turn my eyes to my Maker, and I remember you my Savior. Make me one of the holy remnants in this generation. Let all people come to the Lord with the appropriate gifts.

One Word: Bring gifts to the Lord
