THE LORD GIVES MOAB OVER TO ISRAEL

Passage: Judges 3:12~31

Key verse: 28a

1. Eglon's rule (12-15)

Here we go again. The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord. So God gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel. With Ammonite and Amalekite help, Eglon took Jericho and ruled 18 years. Israel cried out to the Lord, and God gave them left-handed Ehud, a Benjamite, to the deliver them. First he brought tribute to Eglon.

2. Ehud's plot (16-31)

After leaving Eglon king of Moab tribute, Ehud came back alone, bringing a secret message from God. Eglon sent his attendants out of the room. Then Ehud sank his double-edged dagger into Eglon's fat belly and left by another door. The servants waited to the point of embarrassment, unlocked the doors and found King Eglon dead. Ehud blew a trumpet, and rallied Israel saying, "Follow me, for the Lord has given Moab, your enemy, into your hands." Israel won the battle and had peace for 80 years. After Ehud, Shamgar struck down 600 Philistines with an oxgoad and saved Israel.

Prayer: Lord, how slow and forgetful we are to learn from our sins, yet how great is your patience and mercy. Deliver us from our folly and move us to follow your lead.

One Word: Only the Lord gives real victory
