I LIVE WITH THE ONE WHO IS CONTRITE

Passage: Isaiah 56:9~57:21

Key verse: 57:15b

1. God rebukes the wicked (56:9-57:13)

God compared Israel's leaders to dogs who were mute, lazy, and focused only on their own stomachs, gains, and pleasures. God's righteous people perish, being spared from evil and entering into rest, but the wicked don't notice. Instead, they pursued their own idols in vain. When wearied, they did not give up and surrender to God, but renewed their strength to do evil, with no fear of God. Even their righteous works were no benefit, being tainted with idolatry. But the one who takes refuge in the Lord, humbly and in faith, will inherit the land.

2. God revives the lowly in spirit (57:14-21)

God has made a way of salvation that he may dwell with his people, but to enter his way requires a contrite heart, and a lowly spirit. Such people God will heal and give peace, but there is no peace for the wicked, who stubbornly continue in their ways.

Prayer: Father, I take refuge in you with a humble and contrite heart. I need your healing and peace.

One Word: Take refuge in the Lord
