THE LORD RAISES ADVERSARIES

Passage: 1Kings 11:14~43

Key verse: 37

1. Hadad, Rezon and Jeroboam (14-40)

As Solomon drifted away from the LORD, the LORD raised up adversaries against the king. Hadad was from a royal Edomite family and Rezon was a gang leader. Both caused trouble for Solomon throughout his reign. But the greatest trouble would come from Jeroboam. Jeroboam was an Israelite man of standing. Solomon put him in charge of an entire labor force. Ahijah the prophet dramatically foretold what would happen to Solomon and God's purpose for Jeroboam. Jeroboam would receive ten tribes that God would tear away from Solomon's son. God promised Jeroboam that if he obeyed God's word, like David, and walked in God's ways, his kingdom would be established. It was a similar condition to what God had given Solomon many years before.

2. Solomon reigned forty years (41-43)

Solomon reigned forty years and then he died. His son Rehoboam succeeded him. Solomon had started well but his reign did not end well.

Prayer: Lord, you allow troubles to come to get our attention. Help us to live for your glory and purpose from today to the end of our lives.

One Word: Repent and pray when troubles come
