THE LORD PASSES BY ELIJAH

Passage: 1Kings 19:1~21

Key verse: 10

1. The Lord meets Elijah (1-18)

Jezebel threatened Elijah's life when she heard about the slaughter of the prophets. Elijah fled and confessed to the Lord that he wanted to die. He had had enough! But the Lord was not through with Elijah. He sent an angel to tell Elijah to eat and he sent him on a journey-to Horeb, the mountain of God. There, he complained to the Lord that he was alone among the prophets of the Lord, and his life was in danger. Then the Lord revealed Himself in a gentle whisper. He revealed Himself as the sovereign Lord, who raises up kings and prophets. Elijah was not alone. He was one of the remnant.

2. Elijah anoints Elisha (19-21)

Elijah found Elisha and threw his cloak over him, anointing him to succeed him. Although Elijah told him to go back, Elisha took care of some last minute business, then followed Elijah.

Prayer: Lord, help me to hear you however you reveal yourself.

One Word: The Lord reveals Himself to those who seek Him
