ONE PROPHET TOLD THE TRUTH

Passage: 1Kings 22:1~28

Key verse: 14

1. Ahab and Jehoshaphat make a pact (1-7)

Aram had taken Ramoth Gilead from Israel. After three years of peace, Ahab wanted it back. So, he made a pact with Jehoshaphat, king of Israel, that they would join together and get the town back. But first, Jehoshaphat insisted Ahab consult with the Lord. There were 400 prophets available to Ahab. To Ahab, they all said, "Go! You will be successful!" Jehoshaphat saw through their guise. He asked Ahab, "Is there no prophet of the Lord here who we can inquire of?"

2. Only what the Lord tells me (8-28)

There was only one prophet of the Lord, but Ahab hated him because Micaiah only prophesied bad things about Ahab. In reality, only Micaiah prophesied the truth of the Lord. When asked, Micaiah told Ahab what everyone else said. But Ahab wasn't convinced. Micaiah honored the word of the Lord. He spoke the truth. Israel would win the war, but Ahab would lose his life. Micaiah spoke the truth, but he paid a price. He was imprisoned on bread and water until Ahab returned safely.

Prayer: Lord, help me to honor your word and speak your truth.

One Word: Say only what the Lord tells me
