THE DEATHS OF AHAB AND JEHOSHAPHAT

Passage: 1Kings 22:29~53

Key verse: 43

1. The death of Ahab (29-40)

Ahab tried a clever disguise when he decided to go to battle with Aram. He would wear the clothes of a regular soldier, while King Jehoshaphat wore royal robes. But the cleverness of Ahab was nothing compared to the wisdom of God. A stray arrow found its way into Ahab and he died. As his blood was washed from his chariot, dogs licked up his blood, just as the Lord had said. Life belongs to the Lord. Nobody can cheat death.

2. The death of Jehoshaphat (41-53)

Jehoshaphat lived according to the word of the Lord. He did what was right in his eyes, just as his father Asa had done. He rid Judah of male shrine prostitutes. He also lived in peace with Israel. Although he wasn't perfect, the Lord blessed him and he died with honor. Too bad Ahab's son Ahaziah didn't learn from Jehoshaphat.

Prayer: Lord, you give life and you take life in your time. Help us submit to you as our Sovereign Lord.

One Word: Live before the Lord
