FIGHTING MEN AND NOTEWORTHY WOMEN

Passage: 1_Chronicles 7:1~8:40

Key verse: 7:40a

1. Fighting men, and noteworthy women (7:1-40)

This chapter lists key descendants of 6 more tribes of Israel: Issachar (1-5), Benjamin (6-12), Naphtali (13), Manasseh (14-19), Ephraim (20-29), and Asher (30-40). The fighting men are numbered. Moses’ successor, Joshua son of Nun is on Ephraim’s list (27). He conquered the Promised Land. Manasseh includes Zelophehad’s daughters; they had no brothers, so they inherited their own land in Israel (15; Nu 36). Our fight as Christian men and women is with prayer and God’s word against the devil, not against people (Eph 6:12).

2. King Saul’s line (8:1-40)

Benjamin’s line is repeated because of the significance of Israel’s first king, Saul (33), and his son Jonathan. David succeeded Saul as king. Jonathan was David’s best friend, for they both had faith in God.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for outstanding brothers and sisters in Christ who fight against the devil, not against people, through prayer, love and your holy word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

One Word: Fight the devil not people
