A PEOPLE HOLY TO THE LORD

Passage: Deuteronomy 14:1~29

Key verse: 2

1. The LORD has chosen you (1-21)

The people of Israel were children of the LORD and made holy by him. They were a chosen people, God's treasured possession. God is holy; he calls his people to be holy. Therefore, they can't live as the other nations do. God called them to live a separate life, guided by love for him and his commands. They would remain clean as a people when they practiced living in accordance with his commands every day, even in the matter of the foods they ate.

2. So that the LORD your God may bless you (22-29)

God commanded the people to offer a tenth of their produce. He did this so that they might learn to revere God who provided so abundantly for them. It was the recognition of the LORD's blessing. The LORD made the people holy by dwelling with them, though they were not faithful to him. He bore their rejection forty years in the desert. He had a hope that his people would live as a holy offering to the LORD, that he may continually bless them.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for bearing my sin to make me holy. Help me to live as an offering to you.

One Word: Live as a people holy to the Lord
