A PEOPLE HOLY TO THE LORD

Passage: Deuteronomy 14:1~29

Key verse: 2

1. The Lord has chosen you (1-21)

The Lord took a nation of slaves out of Egypt and brought them to himself as the children of God. He was with them, to the point that he became involved in every aspect of their lives-even what they ate. He gave them the laws of clean and unclean so that they could distinguish between following the Lord who called them, or following other gods and religions. But it is not about food, it is about the Lord who makes us clean. When Jesus came, he bore all of our unclean things on himself and made this world clean. (Mark 7:29)

2. So that God may bless you (22-29)

Tithing is giving a tenth of one's income to the Lord. The heart and the wallet are interconnected. The tithe was to be used in two ways: Each year, a part was used to eat together and rejoice in the presence of God; every third year, tithes were set aside to care for the needy. Being holy means seeing others as God's own also, and serving their needs, practicing God's love and compassion just as we received it.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for Jesus, who makes his followers holy people. Open my eyes to see this world from the gospel view.

One Word: Live as God's holy people
