FOLLOW THE WORD OF THE LORD

Passage: Deuteronomy 16:18~17:20

Key verse: 17:19

1. Follow justice and justice alone (16:18-17:13)

The LORD is a just God. He commanded his people not to pervert justice but to follow it in everything they did. He warned against idol worship so that his people might be blessed. They are a people of the covenant, and they would maintain this covenant relationship when they followed the word of the LORD. He established a system of justice that was based on the commands of the LORD. Obedience was a matter of life for the people. Following justice is the continual repudiation of idol worship, adhering to the just commands of holy God.

2. The king (14-20)

God knew that his people would one day long for a worldly king, just as the other nations had. The king of God's people must study the Bible and live by it, not following money, women, or power. And he must not become proud. He must revere the LORD and shepherd God's flock to follow all of God's word, that they may know their true king-the LORD himself.

Prayer: Lord, help me to follow your word as a matter of life.

One Word: Follow God's word and have life
