PREPARING TO MEET THE LORD

Passage: Exodus 19:7~25

Key verse: 11

1. The Israelites accept the covenant (7-8)

After receiving the terms of the covenant, Moses told the elders the words of the LORD. The people all responded that they would do everything the LORD had said. They recognized the great privilege of being God's chosen people. Moses returned to God and gave him their answer.

2. God meets with the Israelites (9-25)

The LORD said that he would come to the people in a dense cloud on the mountain and speak to Moses. The people needed several days to consecrate themselves to meet God. But even their washing and abstinence was not enough. Limits were put around the mountain. The people were repeatedly warned not to force their way through to see God or they would perish. God revealed himself as awesome through thunder, lightning, and a thick cloud. The people trembled. No one can approach the LORD by his own cleansing and effort. Only those who are washed in and covered by the blood of Jesus can approach God. How are you preparing to meet the holy God?

Prayer: Father, you are holy and I fear you. Thank you for Jesus through whom we can confidently approach your throne of grace.

One Word: Be ready to meet the LORD
