THEY BELONG TO ME

Passage: Leviticus 25:35~55

Key verse: 25:55

First, help poor Israelites (35-43). Not all God's people are rich. Some are poor or go through tough times. God wanted fellow wealthier Israelites to help them out: lend them money without interest or profit; hire them until the Jubilee, but not enslave them. This is how they could help each other out to stay and live as God's people in the land God promised. Second, God redeemed and owns them (44-55). Wealthy Israelites could obtain slaves from other nations, not from the Israelites. Poor Israelites who sold themselves to do hired work for a rich foreigner would work only until either a relative bought them back, or they purchased their own freedom, or the Jubilee came. God's reason was that the Israelites were redeemed from slavery in Egypt. God bought them. They belonged to him.

Prayer: Lord God, thank you for redeeming us from slavery to sin through Jesus' shed blood. Now we belong to you as your humble servants and thankful children.

One Word: We belong to the Lord
