THE RISEN CHRIST, Dr. Samuel Lee
JESUS HAS RISEN
Passage: Luke 24:1~12
Key verse: 6
Jesus Has Risen(A)
24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared(B) and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.(C) 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning(D) stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:(E) 7 ‘The Son of Man(F) must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”(G) 8 Then they remembered his words.(H)
9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them(I) who told this to the apostles.(J) 11 But they did not believe(K) the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves,(L) and he went away,(M) wondering to himself what had happened.

As soon as the women could, they went to the tomb to pay their final respects. The tomb was open—but the body of the Lord Jesus was not there. Suddenly, two angels, whose clothes gleamed like lightning, stood by the women. They asked the women why they were looking for the living in the tombs. Then they said, “He is not here; he has risen!” (6). Jesus was not dead anymore. Jesus was alive! Jesus took our sins in his body and died in our place. Then Jesus destroyed sin and death by rising from the dead!
Jesus had repeatedly said he would be delivered over to sinners, be crucified, and then rise again on the third day. The women remembered Jesus’ words and went to tell the Eleven and others that Jesus was alive, but they did not believe. It seemed like nonsense. Peter ran to the tomb and saw that it was empty, but he did not understand. Peter and the others needed to remember Jesus’ words, too.
Jesus has risen from the dead. Because he lives, we, too, shall live eternally with him when we believe. Remember Jesus’ words and believe.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for conquering sin and death through your resurrection!
One Word: Jesus is alive!
