MY SON, WHOM I LOVE

Passage: Luke 3:21~38

Key verse: 3:22

First, Jesus was baptized too (21-22). Jesus was without sin yet he was baptized too. The meaning of Jesus' baptism is that he was inaugurated as the Messiah. As he was praying, heaven opened (21). God was pleased with Jesus' absolute obedience and declared, 'You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased' (22). The Holy Spirit also descended upon Jesus like a dove. God ordained Jesus from heaven to be the Son of God and the Savior of the world. Second, Jesus' genealogy (23-38). Luke's genealogy of Christ traces Jesus' origin all the way back to Adam, 'the son of God' (38). In this way, Luke emphasized that Jesus was the Son of God and the Messiah for all mankind. Jesus is the last Adam who offers us a new history and a new hope to be sons of God who have been redeemed from the fall.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for Jesus your Son who came to be Messiah and Savior for all sinners. Help me to learn absolute obedience to your will and make me a blessing.

One Word: Jesus is God's Son
