CONSIDER THE GREAT LOVE OF THE LORD
Passage: Psalm 107:23~43
Key verse: 43
23 Some went out on the sea(A) in ships;(B)
they were merchants on the mighty waters.
24 They saw the works of the Lord,(C)
his wonderful deeds in the deep.
25 For he spoke(D) and stirred up a tempest(E)
that lifted high the waves.(F)
26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;
in their peril(G) their courage melted(H) away.
27 They reeled(I) and staggered like drunkards;
they were at their wits’ end.
28 Then they cried(J) out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.(K)
29 He stilled the storm(L) to a whisper;
the waves(M) of the sea[a] were hushed.(N)
30 They were glad when it grew calm,
and he guided them(O) to their desired haven.
31 Let them give thanks(P) to the Lord for his unfailing love(Q)
and his wonderful deeds(R) for mankind.
32 Let them exalt(S) him in the assembly(T) of the people
and praise him in the council of the elders.
33 He turned rivers into a desert,(U)
flowing springs(V) into thirsty ground,
34 and fruitful land into a salt waste,(W)
because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
35 He turned the desert into pools of water(X)
and the parched ground into flowing springs;(Y)
36 there he brought the hungry to live,
and they founded a city where they could settle.
37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards(Z)
that yielded a fruitful harvest;
38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased,(AA)
and he did not let their herds diminish.(AB)
39 Then their numbers decreased,(AC) and they were humbled(AD)
by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
40 he who pours contempt on nobles(AE)
made them wander in a trackless waste.(AF)
41 But he lifted the needy(AG) out of their affliction
and increased their families like flocks.(AH)
42 The upright see and rejoice,(AI)
but all the wicked shut their mouths.(AJ)

1. God's wonderful deeds in the deep (23-32)
The Lord stirred up the tempest and those sailing in mighty ships could not endure. Their courage melted. They were seasick. When they called on the Lord for help, he calmed the sea. God teaches us about himself and his great love through the storms of life--when we let go of ourselves and cry out to him for his help.
2. God's blessing and punishment (33-43)
God sees the wickedness of men and turns fruitful land into a desert--so that men might repent. This is God's tough love. God also turns deserts into pools of water; and brings the hungry there to live. He increases the numbers of his people. He humbles the proud and lifts up the needy. He uses every means to draw men to himself to worship, to obey, and to love him. This is his blessing and his love.
Prayer: Lord, teach my heart to love you and my hands and feet to serve you.
One Word: Consider the great love of the Lord
