HE HAS RISEN!

Passage: Mark 16:1~20

Key verse: 6b

1. Despair and defeat (1-3)

Very early in the morning, the women bought spices and went to anoint Jesus' body. They were unaware of the great work God had done and were still lost in their sense of sorrow and despair. They waited until the Sabbath was over because they were still under the Law. They brought spices to anoint the Lord's body because the Lord's death seemed final and they wished to say goodbye one last time. The large stone in front of the tomb presented another dilemma they were powerless to solve. The women seemed to be right back where they were before they met Jesus. They were truly lost without him. Without the resurrection of Christ, our lives would be just as hopeless.

1. Joy and victory (4-20)

The women's despair quickly turned into exuberate joy and amazement. As they entered the tomb, the angel boldly declared, "He has risen! He is not here." This was astounding! And what the angel said next was even more wonderful. Their fellowship with Christ would continue and so would his ministry. The angel commanded them to go and be witnesses of the resurrection. In that short moment at the entrance of the tomb, the full victory of God was revealed to these faithful women. Praise Jesus who rose from the grave and gives us hope in eternal life!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, use us to declare this wonderful news.

One Word: He has risen! He is not here
