DON'T FORSAKE THE LIVING WATER

Passage: Jeremiah 2:1~19

Key verse: 13

1. They exchanged their glorious God (1-11)

The Lord brought an indicting charge against Jerusalem through Jeremiah: they were a devoted youth, a loving bride, holy to the Lord, and the firstfruits of his harvest. But they strayed and followed worthless idols. They forgot God, who brought them out of slavery in Egypt and led them through the wilderness into a fertile land. Priests, leaders and prophets rebelled against God. They exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols.

2. Forsaking living water and digging leaky wells (12-19)

God's people committed two sins: they forsook God, who is the spring of living water, and they dug their own broken cisterns that couldn't hold water. They depended on the waters of Egypt and Assyria, and forsook God, the spring of living water. In their wickedness and backsliding they had no awe of God. They forsook the Lord their God. Punishment and rebuke were ahead of them.

Prayer: Lord our God, how great is your grace of deliverance. Let me not forsake you, the spring of living water, nor depend on leaky vessels.

One Word: Only God is the spring of living water
